Common Questions

Our counseling sessions typically last 55 minutes, with a recommended starting frequency of once per week. Frequency of visits may be adjusted over time based on individual needs.
-
The number of sessions you'll need will depend on several factors, including your level of need. This is something that is not typically an established timeline initially but unfolds and becomes more clear as you begin working with your therapist. You can always express your desires or concerns to your therapist throughout the course of your therapy.

In Washington State, if you're under 18, your conversations with a therapist are confidential—but there are some exceptions depending on your age and the situation.
Ages 13 and Older:
You can consent to your own mental health treatment without parental permission.
What you say is confidential—your therapist cannot share details with your parents without your permission, unless there's a safety concern.
Exceptions: If there's a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there's abuse or neglect, your therapist is required to share that with the appropriate authorities or guardians.
Under Age 13:
Your parents or legal guardians must consent to your therapy.
They generally have the legal right to access your records, though therapists often try to maintain as much privacy for you as possible and may work with families to agree on boundaries.
-

Yes. We offer both in person and virtual sessions.
-
Yes, but this depends on your therapist. Some of Avanti's therapists are virtual-only, so there will not be a way to move to in-person with those individuals. However, many of our therapists are hybrid and do both in person and virtual sessions.
-
Cancellations or rescheduling require at least 24 hours' notice. No-shows incur the full session charge of $180 and late cancellations incur a $90 charge unless the therapist is able to reschedule the appointment for another time within the same week.
-
Yes, as long as your therapist can accommodate for it. It is best if you discuss this with your therapist ahead of time.
-
This can vary depending on the therapist and the type of work you're doing in therapy. Some therapists assign appropriate tasks to complete between sessions, while others may not use homework at all. In general, the amount of homework should not be overwhelming. If you find it difficult to complete assigned tasks, it's important to discuss this with your therapist.
-
If you feel you are not a good fit with your current therapist, we encourage you to try working with another therapist. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors of effective therapy and although we try to align new clients with the right therapist, it is not always the right fit.
-
Generally, you can continue seeing your clinician for as long as needed. However, there may be limitations based on insurance coverage or financial factors. The decision to continue therapy is a collaborative conversation between you and your therapist, but ultimately it is at your therapist’s discretion.
